Kitchen Renovation & Structural Works Sheffield
Case Study: Kitchen Renovation & Structural Works in a Victorian Home – Rustlings Road, Ecclesall, Sheffield
Client Overview
Our client, a recommended customer, resides in a charming yet dated Victorian property on Rustlings Road, located in the desirable Ecclesall area of Sheffield. The client approached us with a clear vision: to modernise the kitchen space while preserving the home’s original character. During our initial home visit, he shared specific ideas, including re-opening the original chimney breast to reposition the oven.
Client Objectives
- Reconfigure the kitchen layout for improved functionality
- Reopen the original chimney breast to house a new oven/range
- Remove the existing kitchen, including outdated units, flooring, and wall tiles
- Install new electrics, including recessed spot lighting
- Achieve a modern kitchen design that complements the period features of the property
Our Process
1. Consultation & Design
At the first visit, the client expressed his desire to reposition the oven within the original chimney breast. Our design team developed an initial layout that balanced traditional features with modern practicality. Following a collaborative design process, and after a few amendments, the final design was agreed upon to suit the client’s exact preferences.
2. Strip-Out & Structural Work
With the design finalised, we began by fully stripping out the existing kitchen—removing all units, flooring, and wall tiles. One of the key challenges was reopening the original chimney breast, which revealed a hidden back boiler and associated pipework. Our team safely altered and rerouted the services to accommodate the installation of a new Range cooker within the chimney recess, maintaining the home’s period charm.
3. Electrical & Ceiling Works
To bring a contemporary feel to the kitchen, we lowered the ceiling to allow for the installation of recessed LED spotlights. All electrics were updated and repositioned to match the new kitchen layout and meet current standards, ensuring safe and efficient functionality throughout.
4. Final Installation
The client selected a bespoke kitchen from our Laura Ashley range—specifically the Bedale Painted to Order in a rich Indigo finish. The design included elegant glazed units with internal lighting to enhance both functionality and ambiance. The look was completed with white Arabesque quartz worktops, upstands, splashback, and window sill, creating a seamless and luxurious finish.
Project Highlights
- Restored character: The reopened chimney breast became a stunning focal point
- Modern upgrades: Lowered ceiling with recessed lighting added contemporary style
- Premium finish: High-spec kitchen units and quartz surfaces provided a luxurious touch
- Tailored solution: Every stage was shaped by the client’s feedback and design vision
